These guys are so incredibly rad.Link to my "Calabasas Mercedes" review and you'll get the story from all angles. Anyway, onto the review.I originally came into BM b/c my bf wanted to see if he needed new brake pads, since he's had his car for 4 years and never needed them replaced. So we go in to the location on Topanga Canyon Blvd and the guy was too lazy to even check his truck to see if he needed brakes. So we got an estimate. Then we went to a different BM, the one in Tarzana.Wow. Fred took my BF's truck, took off the wheels and did a quick brake check - and honestly told my BF that he wasn't even close to needing new brakes! Now I'm not sure what your experiences have been in the past, but mechanics/brake people/etc. are always trying to make a buck and don't mind claiming you need services done when you don't, but BM's honest feedback was much appreciated! Being two post-graduate students not wanting to pay for more than what's needed, we thanked them profusely for not ripping him off (que Dane Cook's "There seems to be a unicorn in the tail pipe, that'll be about $300" "Ohh, $300? That's about what I thought I'd have to pay, yeah. Thank you for not fucking me big time" skit about how mechanics love to rip people off). He also gave me a range of what it would cost for me to get my brakes set up with lifetime service (Mercedes told me I was dangerously low on my pads). So then a few weeks later (end of April), as promised, I brought in my car to BM to get lifetime brakes. They looked at my car and said I didn't even need brakes! (I last had them changed November 2006 and this was not even 2 years later!! Stupid Mercedes people) He said I had over 50% left in the front and like-new pads in the back! I smiled and thanked him and thanked him.Few weeks later (June 23rd), a week after my dad noticed my temperature gauge rising and advised me to fill up on coolant, I call BM to see if someone could check on my coolant level for me. They gladly said "yes!!" I came in, they checked it AND FILLED IT for free!! George gave me all the coolant I needed and even gave me the good stuff. How nice! I asked if he could check if I needed a new air filter, too, which he glady did, and said it was really dry and I should get a new one - BUT I should get one at Kragen or AutoZone to save money on getting it done at BM. How honest!! I love these guys more than I did before! So I told them I'd come in at the end of the week to get an oil change since I was due for one. George gladly set up the appointment and even made sure they had my oil filter in stock. He put my name on it to ensure I'd be set up, and set it aside (they only had 1 left at their location).4 days later (June 27), as promised, I bring my car in on a day off work (Friday) for the M-F oil change special of $16.99, well aware that my car is going to be more than $16.99, for being a Mercedes. Get this: On a mercedes with a new oil filter, an oil change usually costs about $45 (Xlube, Jiffy Lube). After waiting for NOT EVEN 10 minutes, my oil change was completed (yes, fluids topped, etc.) with only being $28! He gave me $10 off for being a repeat customer, too. Sweet. I told the guy that I was waiting on Kragen to get my air filter in, but was hoping I could swing by and have him install it. He said "of course" and I went and got my air filter. I called ahead of time to see if he was free to swap it out since I was in a major rush to catch a flight out of LAX. He said he'd be ready for me. By the time I got there - he quickly came out and swapped out the old one for the new one. No charges, no guilt trips, nothing. These guys are fantastic. I recommend them to ANYONE who needs advice about repairs, brakes, filters, tubes (one of mine is dry rotting... it's 13 years old, bound to happen), or anything else car-related!They are some of the most honest car guys I've ever encountered and I praise Brake Masters for having such honest guys representing their business. Awesome. I will be a return customer for as much as I can help it!

Nothing to fear here

Beginning November 2010, Management changed at this location. I was reluctant to use this provider at first because I'm naturally suspicious of chain auto repair shops. However, Mike and Sean did a very professional job. My rear brakes needed to be replaced and they did so for a rate that my regular, and trusted, mechanic approved. The rotors were just barely below the minimum recommended by the manufacturer and they suggested changing them. I elected not to, only because the car is 13 years old and I won't have it much longer. They suggested replacing the master brake cylinder due to a suspected, but not visually confirmed, leak. After clamping off all four hoses to the cylinder. the brake pedal still sunk too low. I elected to get a second opinion from my own mechanic after speaking with him as the leak was not visually confirmed.I would visit this location again. Sean was very professional and helpful. As with all suggested repairs, it's a good idea to get a second opinion from a trusted source to verify. In addition, it was implied that if my mechanic had a lower price, they would try to beat it.Nothing to fear here, as far as I can tell. Give them a try.

BEST MECHANIC EVER

Just got my brakes changed and honestly could not be happier MAKE SURE TO ASK FOR SEAN!!!! To preface I have a 2007 BMW 328i coupe which I purchased at Center BMW in 2009. A few days ago I an indicator light appeared on my dash which said I needed to get my brakes changed. I went into Center BMW where they said it'd cost me $700 per axle to get the brakes replaced. I needed the brakes on both axles replaced, so it was going to cost me $1400 total. Rather than just throw money away i decided to call around to see what other options were out there. To start I will admit that i HATE mechanics. I've NEVER had a good experience with one and they ALWAYS seem to find a way to screw me over and scum me out of money. Thus the act of finding someone to change my brakes was one that i was not looking forward to. I called around and made sure to probe each mechanic i called (firestone, Brake centers, and other various mechanics i was recommended to) and asked about the quality of brakes they intended to install on my car and the price, none of them made me feel as comfortable as SEAN at brake masters did when he picked up the phone. He explained why there brakes were stellar quality while making sure not to put any other companies down. The price was nearly HALF of what Center BMW requested I pay. Once again I hate mechanics, but Sean was different. He took my car for a test drive, popped the hood and peaked around a little bit, then lifted the car up to determine if i needed brakes. He didnt push me into making ANY decisions i wasnt comfortable with, he made sure I was getting a great deal, and just made me feel comfortable. Rather than just tell me i needed new brakes and stick me with a price (something Firestone and Center BMW have done to me), he grabbed me from the waiting area and walked me around my car to describe the various details that caused him to come up with his conclusion. He also managed to notice my power steering fluid was leaking by just noticing a tiniest bit of fluid that managed to escape the cap - something I never noticed, but he urged me to utilize my warranty and force Center BMW to fix it rather than paying him. Out of sheer kindness he also replaced several fluids in my car, which I new was supposed to cost extra as they have a sign dictating the various prices in their lobby. SEAN IS THE BEST MECHANIC EVER AND ONCE AGAIN HE IS THE ONLY REASON I WILL BE RETURNING TO BRAKE MASTERS FOR ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING. Sean was descriptive, he was warm, and kind....something I never expected from a mechanic. I'm going to be going back to Brake masters specifically to get the assistance of Sean. I've never felt so happy to pay for something this expensive on my car. TLDR: Go to brake masters and ASK FOR SEAN. He's by far the most competent and trustworthy mechanic I've ever dealt with.

Awesome place to bring your car.

Great mechanic shop! I bring my car to this auto mechanic as they are trustworthy and always execute a great job on getting my oil changed or regular repair. I've been bringing my car to Hank. He's always looking for ways to save money and manage the problems the most convenient way he can. A true auto mechanic who knows about servicing cars and caring for people at the same time. Unfortunately we do not see this a lot in the mechanic world. After taking my car to the dealership and being told my car needed $2,500 worth of repairs and car maintenance . Hank addressed the various issues and recommended half of the auto repairs with a suggestion the other was minor and could wait. They were prompt, professional and saved me $1000 in overall cost!! Will definitely start taking my car here from now on. Hank is the best mechanic! They are always promptly there for scheduling an appointment for bringing my car in.Thank you guys for the good work.

By far the best place to go

Mike and The Mechanics.....ha...By far the best place to go. Mike is a Godsend. He's smart friendly and helpful beyond anything I've experienced at a mechanic. More than twice I've gone in thinking I had major problems... He had his people check it out.. And sent me on my way free of charge saying... You're all good.. When I offer to pay him he says. "That's not gonna happen... Save It for when there's a real problem and you have a great day " Unheard of at most mechanics.. it's small favors like that, that create loyal returning customers...I could not reccomend this place more highly. Just the BEST, I would never go anywhere else... THIS is the place you've all been looking for. Truly.
