In the early 1900s, disposable paper products appeared. Although they're not eco-friendly, they become essential for parties, homes & serving a crowd.

It may be tempting to load up a paper plate and chuck it in the oven if you're bringing home leftovers from a family gathering.

It could be tempting because it appears to be an easy and quick fix, but is it safe? How safe is it to heat food on paper plates in the oven?

It's not a good idea to put paper plates in the oven. The extreme heat inside the oven could potentially catch fire on the paper plate.

While the USDA says paper plates are technically acceptable to use in microwaves, it's not recommended because food cooks longer in the oven.

BigTimeKitchen says that paper plates that are brightly colored or have a plastic-like coating could be dangerous.

When heated in the oven, the colors and plastic chemicals in these plates could leach into your meal, making it taste funny or make you sick.

Instead of taking any chances with your health, it's smart to use an oven-safe container while reheating meals.
